NYC- New York City is celebrating the life of the late Brooklyn rapper Biggie Smalls on what would’ve been his 50th birthday.
Mayor Eric Adams presented the Brooklyn-born rapper’s son, C.J. Wallace, with a proclamation from the city recognizing his music and legacy in Hip Hop.
“He was able to turn pain into purpose. He used his music to define what was happening in everyday life,” the mayor said.
Biggie Smalls’ birthday is on Saturday, and the city will continue to celebrate the late rapper by holding different event for fans.
The Empire State Building will display a crown on its mast Friday, and there will also be limited-edition metro cards with the rapper on them. Those will be sold throughout various subway stations in Brooklyn.
Biggie Smalls, whose real name is Christopher Wallace, was murdered in a drive-by shooting when he was just 24.
