MEMPHIS, TENN- A basketball court donated by rapper NLE Choppa to his former community was destroyed by fireworks over the weekend.
Firefighters responded Sunday around 7:30 a.m. on June 4 to a fire at the Raleigh Community Center on Powers Road and found the basketball court up in flames, MFD said, Fox13 Memphis reports.
The cause of the fire was a pile of fireworks that ignited at the center of the court, according to the MFD.
NLE Choppa’s mother, Angela Potts has expressed her disappointment in the incident, telling FOX13 ” It’s heartbreaking in general, but it doesn’t make you feel a little better or at ease to know that it wasn’t intentional,” she said.
NLE made the state-of-the-art court to give the youth a sense of community.
The basketball court was unveiled just two weeks before.
Authorities are investigating.
