NYC- The NYPD took down two alleged violent rival gangs accused of murder and more, according to a report.
Some of the more 30 suspects have been on Rikers Island and in state prison for other crimes. One suspect was caught allegedly throwing a gun out of a car window during the raid and spit at a FOX5 cameraman.
All the suspects were brought into the 111th Precinct to be charged, but due to the rivalry between the two alleged gangs, police booked them at separate precincts to keep associates and family members separated when they show up.
According to FOX5, the 4-year investigation that led to the arrests of these gangs began after the senseless killing of 14-year-old Amir Griffin in Oct. 2019.
Griffin, a promising team basketball player who was shot and killed playing basketball was an unintended target, police said.
Sean Price, 18, who is part of this case was charged with Griffin’s murder.
A second victim, Sean Vance, 26, was shot eight times and killed on New Year’s Eve 2020 while sitting inside of a car. He was targeted by gang members who had wrongly blamed him for the death of Money World member.
As the investigation continued, detectives found a connection to other shootings in South Jamaica, Queens. One that even happened outside of a high school.
Detectives say the shootings were allegedly a result of a rivalry between the “Money World” and “Trapstar” gangs, the news outlet reported.
The rivalry is over territory, not drugs or money, police said. Detectives said their beef was stirred up through social media taunts and Drill music video, where some allegedly bragged about the shootings, according to FOX5.
