Oakland Street Renamed To Honor Tupac Shakur

OAKLAND, Cali – The city of Oakland paid tribute to Tupac Shakur Friday at a ceremony to celebrate the renaming of a street after the slain rapper.

The “California” rapper’s family members were present, along with other MC’s on MacArthur Blvd. as it became “Tupac Shakur Way” to honor the Oakland neighborhood where the rapper was raised and lived in the 1990’s.

Tupac was born in New York City, in Harlem in the late 80’s, moved to Baltimore with his mother before settling in the Bay Area in the 90’s.

It was in Oakland where he began rapping and joined the rap group Digital Underground a dancer and a rapper.

Digital Underground’s Money B was present at the renaming ceremony, along with Bay Area rapper’s E-40, MC Hammer, Too $hort and Richey Rich Double R.

The street ceremony comes one day after Tupac’s murder suspect, Duane “Keffe D” Davis pleaded not guilty to the rapper’s death.
