MINNEAPOLIS- Former officer Derek Chauvin, who was charged in George Floyd’s death was released from a correctional facility on Wednesday after posting bail.
Chauvin, 44, was being held at the Minnesota Correctional Facility-Oak Park Heights.
WCCO reports that Chauvin left the facility on Wednesday, around 10 a.m., to be transferred to the Hennepin County Jail in order to post bail. Chauvin’s unconditional bail was set at $1.25 million, or $1 million with conditions, he posted a non-cash bond guaranteed by Allegheny Casualty.
Chauvin has been charged with second-degree murder, third-degree murder and manslaughter for the killing of George Floyd.
Chauvin was caught on cellphone footage kneeling on Floyd’s neck for 8 minutes, as Floyd was gasping for air and telling Chauvin that he couldn’t breathe. His cries were ignored, and he died in front of a crowd of bystanders.
All 4 officer’s involved in Floyd’s death are now free.
