Former Minnesota police officer Kimberly Potter, who fatally shot Daunte Wright, was arrested and charged on Wednesday. She’s facing manslaughter charges, prosecutors say.
Potter, 48, was charged a day after she resigned from the police department. She was a 26-year veteran.
Wright was pulled over on Sunday for having a suspended registration, police say. Police attempted to arrest Wright after they learned he had a misdemeanor arrest warrant.
Wright ran back inside of his car, and Potter can be seen on bodycam, shooting him as he’s running away. He drove for some time before crashing his car and dying from his injuries.
He was pronounced on the scene.
Potter says that she mistook her gun for her taser.
There have been days of protest in the wake of Wright’s death.
