Pennsylvania grants rapper Meek Mill a retrial after a decade of fighting

PENNSYLVANIA- Rapper Meek Mill has been granted a retrial, after years of fighting to do so.

It took three judges to grant Meek a retrial. The judges stated, “The Commonwealth concedes a new trial is required.”

Meek Mill, whose real name is Robert Williams, has been fighting this case for over 10 years. He even caught the attention of Jay-Z, who pitched in to help Meek with his legal issues, due to the injustice he believed he was being put through.

Meek was also asking to get rid of the judge who was handling his case.

Meek had one witness, which was an officer, who committed theft and is no longer working.

The rapper released a statement through the advocacy group Reform Alliance, saying “I’d like to thank the Pennsylvania Superior Court for overturning my conviction and granting me a new trial,” adding “The past 11 years have been mentally and emotionally challenging, but I’m glad that justice prevailed and my clean record has been restored.”
