Popeye’s Employee Charged After Allegedly Shooting At Man During Drug Deal Gone Wrong

TEXAS- A Popeye’s employee was arrested and charged after he was allegedly selling drugs and shot at someone during a drug deal gone wrong, police said.

Harris County police responded to reports of a shooting at the Popeye’s restaurant located in the 8400 Block of FM 1960 Bypass Road West around 4 p.m., according to Click2 Houston.

Police say Yadiel Gonzalez was selling drugs while on the clock. He was working the drive-thru and the front cash system. Police say he would pass his number to customers to contact him for marijuana if he thought they smoked, the outlet wrote.

An investigation revealed that an unknown man went into the restaurant to purchase marijuana from Gonzalez. When the two men were inside the restroom conducting a sale, the man tried to steal Gonzalez’s backpack, which had the drugs, reports Click2Houston.

A fight escalated to the front of the fast-food restaurant, where 19-year-old Gonzalez allegedly shot at the man at least seven times, police said.

The man fled the scene on foot, and police later found the bookbag in a trash can which contained the drugs and a gun.

Gonzalez was arrested and charged with carrying a weapon, deadly conduct, and tampering with evidence.

His bond has been set at $20,100.
