SOUTH CAROLINA- According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s office in South Carolina, a prison guard was sentenced to 7 prison on Wednesday after pleading guilty to the brutal stabbing of an inmate under his care.
In 2016, 29-year-old Jarrell Boyan was working as a lieutenant at the Correction Institute when an inmate broke his light fixture in his cell. Boyan sent other guards to inspect his cell and restrain the inmate.
During a search, guards found a shank on the inmate, whose name is Kenya Spry.
After the guards finished restraining the inmate and taking his shank away, ranking officer Boyan was seen on prison surveillance video, returning to Spry’s cell, where he stabbed him four times, as other guards stood around and didn’t intervene.
Boyan then falsified a report of what happened, and had two other guards do the same thing.
Spry suffered injuries to his liver and kidneys.
Boyan was sentenced to 7 years in prison.
