FLORIDA- Prosecutors in the murder trial of rapper YNW Melly want his mother present for his scheduled jury selection on Tuesday.
Prosecutors served a subpoena on Jamie King earlier this month, YNW Melly’s mother. The subpoena orders King to attend a pre-trial conference scheduled for Thursday, reports the Sun-Sentinel.
YNW Melly’s defense lawyers are attempting to stop prosecutors from bringing King into the courtroom.
“Jamie King has never been questioned or spoken to by law enforcement during the investigation of this case, has never made any statements, oral or otherwise, and has never spoken to or been questioned by any prosecutor or defense attorney,” wrote Robert Trachman, who represents King.
The rapper’s defense team will try to stop the subpoena on Thursday.
Court docs don’t state why prosecutors want King present for her son’s pre-trial hearing.
YNW Melly, whose real name is Jamell Demons, is accused of killing his two best friends in 2018, who were also rappers and conspiring to make their deaths look as if was a drive-by.
Melly’s co-defendant, rapper YNW Bortlen, whose real name is Cortlen Henry, is scheduled to appear in court will be tried separately and is due back in court in July.
