R. Kelly To Be Sentenced For Child Porn Conviction After Judges Ruling

CHICAGO- Disgraced singer R. Kelly will be sentenced for his recent child porn conviction in Chicago.

The R&B singer was previously convicted of child pornography charges and will have to stand after judge Harry D. Leinenweber declared a motion to overturn the ruling, according to Billboard.

Kelly’s attorney, Jennifer Bonjean, had requested a new trial after she accused a witness who testified during the trial of lying in an attempt to seek $13 million in restitution from the singer.

The judge declared that federal prosecutors gave jurors “enough evidence to sustain a guilty verdict on all six counts that Kelly was convicted”, Billboard reported.

The woman, identified as “Jane Doe” testified that she was 14 when Kelly allegedly videotaped their sexual activities in the 1990’s.

The woman, who’s now 37, say she was the teen girl in the video that leaked to the press and internet.

In 2004, Doe refused to testify and that led the jury to acquit the singer due to inconclusive evidence regarding the girl’s age.

At the end of the trial the woman said that she was ashamed and tried to protect the singer when she refused to testify when she was 14.

The judge said that “Simply because Jane and her attorney considered the possibility of restitution, does not mean she lied during her testimony.”

Kelly is set to be sentenced next week.

He could face 30 years in prison for his conviction in New York. He also has another trial in Minnesota.
