NEW YORK (AP)- R. Kelly’s new lawyer’s have asked a judge to postpone the singer’s sex trafficking trial due to them not having enough time to prepare because Kelly is under mandatory jail quarantine since his transfer from Chicago.
Kelly’s lawyer, Deveraux Cannick, argued in a letter to U.S. District Judge Ann Donnelly that he hasn’t been able to meet with the singer in person due to him being quarantined and that proceeding with Kelly’s trial would rob him of meaningful representation.
R. Kelly, whose real name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, was placed in quarantine after arriving at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn from Chicago on June 22.
Prosecutors haven’t answered to Cannicks request.
Kelly is accused of running an enterprise made up of his mangers, employees and bodyguards who allegedly helped him in recruiting women and young girls for sex.
Some of his victims were selected at concerts and other venues.
Kelly denies the accusations….
