NORTH CAROLINA- Rapper DaBaby has been charged with felony battery for a 2020 incident.
The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office has charged the Charlotte rapper, whose real name is Johnathan Kirk, after an incident that stems from December of 2020, which left one person injured, reports WCNC.
According to the arrest warrant obtained by WCNC, DaBaby and Thankgod Chimmeka Awute were both charged with felony battery after allegedly they “willfully unlawfully use force and violence” against the victim, Gary Pagar, TMZ reported.
The incident, which was recorded on cellphone footage, happened at a rental property owned by the victim in L.A. as DaBaby and his crew were filming a music video.
Pagar became upset when he saw more people than he reportedly expected at his property, despite him having a contract with the rapper.
In Feb. of 2021, Pagar filed a lawsuit against the rapper and his manager, Kinsza Virgil, which alleges that Pagar was attempting to enforce his agreed property rental rules when he was attacked by DaBaby and Awute, according to TMZ.
Pagar claims in the suit that DaBaby had ordered Awute to stop attacking him, but then the rapper allegedly punched Pagar in the face, which caused him to lose a tooth, reported TMZ.
