CHICAGO- Rapper G-Herbo is giving thousands of masks to a jail amid the Coronavirus epidemic.
According to The Hill, G-Herbo, whose real name is Herbert Randall Wright III, has partnered with the Alliance for Safety and Justice to hand out 20,000 masks to the Cook County Jail.
So far, 1,000 cases of COVID-19 have been reported from the jail, and 6 inmates have died from the virus. One of the victims whose name is Nickolas Lee, has a relative that’s produced for G-Herbo.
The rapper released a statement obtained by The Hill:
“Our communities have been hurt by COVID-19 at a higher level than others, and our health needs to be a priority,” G Herbo said in a release, adding “I’m thankful to partner with Alliance for Safety and Justice to help protect people in Cook County Jail who remain at greater risk during this pandemic. Families and communities need to be safe from Coronavirus, and we’re hoping to do a small part with this donation and even more with the #StopTheSpread Action Plan.”
Chicago’s Cook County jail is one of the largest jails in the states.
