ATLANTA- Rapper Gunna will remain behind bars after his bond was denied.
Judge Ural Glanville denied Gunna bond on Monday, and set his trial date for Jan 2023, according to Billboard.
Prosecutors allegedly fear witness intimidation if the rapper would be released on bond.
Prosecutors at the hearing told the judge that Gunna was not “just an associate” but “in a position of command” in YSL, which prosecutors are calling a gang, reports Billboard.
In an issued statement, Gunna’s attorney Steven Sadow told Billboard:
“The court was obviously concerned about threats and intimidation of witnesses. We believe when the court hears evidence, not just the words of the prosecutor, it will find that Sergio’s release on bond will not, directly or indirectly, pose a significant risk to witnesses. We look forward to having an evidentiary hearing on this as soon as the court permits.”
Gunna, Young Thug and 28 others were named in a 56-count RICO indictment against YSL (Young Thug’s record label).
Charges range from racketeering to murder.
