NYC – Rapper Lil Zay Osama plead guilty to a federal gun charge in court Thursday and may face prison time.
The Chicago rapper, whose real name is Isiah Dukes, pleaded guilty to possession of a machine gun in a Brooklyn Federal Court. He reportedly admitted to leaving a .40-caliber Glock pistol on the seat of a ride share car on Sept. 29, 2022, while in Queens. The gun had a switch installed to turn it into a fully automatic weapon, The Daily News reported.
The charge may carry a 10-year prison sentence, but federal guidelines out his possible sentence at 21 to 27 months.
The rapper and some of his associates were traveling from Manhattan to a Queens recording studio when their Uber driver noticed him handling a gun in the backseat.
When the passengers excited the Uber, Dukes left the gun behind.
The FEDS initially charged him on Sept. 30, 2022, but months later, the case was dismissed without prejudice, which means prosecutors could revisit it at a later time.
This past February, the FEDS did come back, hitting him with a grand jury indictment, charging the 26-year-old rapper with possession of a machine gun and possession of an unregistered gun.
Dukes pleaded guilty to the machine gun charge.
He told the judge “I knowingly possessed a firearm that was a machine gun in Queens County on Sept. 29, 2022, he said. “I know it was wrong and against the law.’
He remains behind bars at the Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center. There is no sentencing date.
