NEW ORLEANS- Rapper Mystikal wants a judge to put a gag order on his rape and false imprisonment case because of an “inordinate amount of publicity.”
His new attorney Tiffany Myles Crosby filed the request on Thursday, according to NOLA.com.
Mystikal dropped his former longtime defense attorneys who had represented him in another rape case, which ended with prosecutors dismissing the case in 2020.
If the gag order goes in place, attorneys, witnesses and law enforcement would be prohibited from commenting on the case to anyone.
Mystikal, whose real name is Michael Lawarence Tyler, is accused of raping a woman he was friends with at his home.
He allegedly strangled, raped and threatened her with scissors at his home. An arrest warrant says he also forced the victim to pay him $150 through an app and allegedly hit her when she didn’t do it.
Tyler pleaded not guilty to first-degree rape, robbery, false imprisonment and other charges. If convicted of rape, he faces up to life sentence.
