NEW JERSEY- Singer Jaheim has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty after allegedly starving 15 of his dogs at his home.
The singer, whose real name is Jaheim Hoagland, had the 15 dogs in crates which were filled with feces and water, prosecutors said on Thursday, reports MSN.
Police went to Hoagland’s home on Monday, after receiving a report of a “puppy in distress” and that’s when they discovered six dogs in the singer’s driveway. One of the dogs was found dying and had to be euthanized.
Police then made the discovery of nine more dogs who were “in varying stages of emaciation” and had no water or food.
Several dogs were taken to an emergency veterinary clinic.
Hoagland was charged with third-degree animal cruelty and failure to provide necessary care to an animal.
Jaheim is known for his hit songs “Put That Woman First”, “Fabulous” and others. His 2006 album “Ghetto Classics” reached No.1 on the Billboard 200 chart.
