Reggie Chaney, Former Houston Basketball Forward, Dies At 23

HOUSTON- Former Houston basketball forward Reggie Chaney has died at 23.

Chaney’s death was confirmed by the team on Tuesday on Twitter:

The Cougars wrote “We are heartbroken by the passing of forward Reggie Chaney. #32 will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.”#RIPReggie

There is no cause of death.

Chaney had just signed a contract to play professional basketball overseas and was a week away from traveling before dying, according to Houston head basketball coach Kelvin Sampson.

“He was leaving Monday, Aug 28th for Greece,” Sampson said.

Chaney played for the Cougars’ basketball team for three seasons from 2020 to 2023 and was part of Houston’s NCAA tournament run to the final four in 2021, Elite Eight in 2022 and Sweet Sixteen in 2023.
