RIKERS ISLAND- A Riker’s Island inmate was found dead inside of his cell Tuesday morning.
Esias Johnson, 24, was found by a correction officer who was touring the jail around 9:45 a.m. He allegedly died from a drug overdose, but an autopsy will confirm his cause if death, reports Fox News.
Johnson was awaiting trial. He was arrested last month on an arrest warrant and was charged with aggravated harassment, menacing and making a terroristic threat.
He was due in court on Wednesday.
Johnson is now the 10th inmate to die in Riker’s Island this year alone.
Due to years of corruption, abuse by correction officers and inmate deaths, the jail will be closing it’s rusty doors soon.
