Sha’Carri Richardson suspended after testing positive for Marijuana; was mourning mother’s death

Sha’Carri Richardson may not be heading to the Tokyo Olympics, after testing positive for Marijuana.

Richardson was suspended this week after failing a drug test.

Richardson told NBC News that she takes full responsibility for testing positive, but she was mourning the death of her biological mother, who she learned was dead in an interview days before Olympic trials.

She told NBC “I was just thinking it would be a normal interview,” adding “But to hear that information coming from a complete stranger, it was definitely triggering, it was definitely nerve-shocking.”

The 21-year-old says she then turned to Marijuana to cope with her pain.

“I know I can’t hide myself, so… in some type of way, I was trying to hide my pain.”

Richardson has been raised by her grandmother, who attended the trails.
