Singer Lana Del Rey receives backlash for postponing show in Israel

Singer Lana Del Rey is receiving backlash for postponing a performance she had scheduled for Israel.

Del Rey was to set to perform in at the Meteor festival in Kibbutz Lehavot Habashan and in Palestine, but after receiving a lot of backlash from her Palestinian fans and activists, the singer has decided to postpone that show.

Del Rey had previously defended her choice to perform at the festival before changing her mind. She wrote, “I would like to remind you that performing in Tel Aviv is not a political statement or a commitment to the politics there,” she wrote in an earlier statement.

An activist group called (Pacbi) which stands for The Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel had told Del Rey to reconsider her performance in Israel due to their treatment of Palestinians. They also thanked the singer for postponing next weeks headlining performance at the music fest in Tel Aviv.

Israel says (Pacbi) is motivated by anti-Semitism and is basically opposed to anything that Israel stands for.

Other artist have received backlash for performing in Israel, such as Radiohead and Lorde who cancelled a show in December. The singer was told by fans that performing in Israel would “send the wrong message”.
