DETROIT – A teacher once named “Teacher Of The Year” says she was fired for being a rapper.
Dominique Brown, who goes by the rap name “Drippin Honey”, dropped her new music video “Drippin 101” featuring some of her former students, but one parent didn’t take it well, causing her to be fired months after, according to Brown.
The parent’s complaint was made anonymously in October 2023, leading to Brown attending months of meetings with school officials where she had to defend her side hustle as a rapper.
The parent continued to put a fight up with the school.
Brown was teaching for seven years before she was terminated.
“My outside life should not be grounds for termination when it does not interfere with my ability to fulfill my responsibilities as teacher,” Brown wrote under her music video on YouTube. “My dedication, professionalism, and passion for education have always been unwavering, regardless of any personal pursuits I may have.”
