ATLANTA- A teenager was killed in a freak elevator accident on Tuesday, police say.
JauMarcus McFarland, 19, was pinned in between the falling cab and the third floor, reports The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
911 callers were horrified as they described seeing McFarland’s legs dangling from the second floor.
First responders took about an hour trying to free McFarland. He was pronounced dead on the scene after falling unconscious.
Some friends of McFarland are blaming the condition of the elevator, but building management claims the elevator became overcrowded when 16 people got inside and that may have caused a “deadly domino” effect.
McFarland had just started school in August at Atlanta’s Champion Prep Academy. A school where students can enroll in an athletic and educational program before applying to colleges.
