Teen Faces Up To 72 Years After Rock-Throwing Spree Killed 19-Year-Old Girl

COLORADO – A teenager faces between 35 and 72 years in prison after pleading guilty to his role in a rock-throwing spree that killed a girl last year.

Nicholas “Mitch” Karol-Chik, 19, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in connection with the death of death of Alexa Bartelli.

Karol-Chik took a plea deal in exchange for prosecutors dropping first-degree murder charges.

On April 19, 2023, Karol-Chik and two of his friends, Joseph Koenig and Zachary Kwak, drove around Denver throwing large rocks at other vehicles. The teens struck seven cars during their deadly spree.

Karol-Chik passed Koeing the rock that killed Bartell, and he threw it.

Kwak pleaded guilty to second-degree murder last week and faces between 20 and 32 years in prison.

Koeing has pleaded not guilty.
