A 14-year-old boy who died after eating a spicy chip for a Paqui “One Chip Challenge” died from eating too much Chile pepper extract and combined with a heart defect, officials said.
An autopsy released on Tuesday revealed that Wolobah died as a result of the cardiopulmonary arrest “in the setting of recent ingestion of food substance with a high capsaicin concentration.”
Capsaicin helps give chili peppers their hot taste.
Wolobah suffered from an enlarged heart and a congenital defect, according to the Chief Office of the Medical Examiner.
Harris Wolobah died on September 1, 2023, after he consumed a very controversial Paqui tortilla chip that is dusted with two of the world’s hottest peppers and was branded as a “vengeful pleasure of intense heat and pain.”
