Tory Lanez And His Driver Will Not Take The Stand In Trial With Megan Thee Stallion, Closing Arguments Begin

LOS ANGELES- Singer Tory Lanez and his driver will not be taking the stand in his trial with rapper Megan Thee Stallion.

The Canadian rapper/singer, whose real name is Daystar Peterson elected not to take the stand Wednesday in his criminal trial for allegedly shooting rapper Megan Thee Stallion, whose real name is Megan Pete, according to The Grio.

Lanez told judge David V. Herriford “I will not testify,” according to Billboard.

His personal driver, Jaquan Smith, also elected not to testify. He was reportedly driving the SUV that Lanez was riding in with Megan and her former friend Kelsey Harris on the night of the alleged incident which happened in July of 2020.

The prosecutors and Defense both continued on with their closing arguments.

Lanez is accused of shooting the rapper in her foot after an argument in the SUV.

Smith was identified as being present during the shooting (s), according to the testimony of a man, Sean Kelly, who said he witnessed a “smaller gentleman” who began “firing everywhere” after one of two women opened fire first.

Lanez, who’s 5’3, was identified as the smaller individual and the driver was described as the taller individual by Kelly.

Tory’s lawyer, George Mgdesyan, told Billboard that he hoped Smith would have taken the stand, but couldn’t due to procedural wrangling and the possibility of a delay that might have made the jury return after Christmas, according to Billboard.

Closing arguments began for the defense, with Tory’s attorney telling jurors that the shooter was Harris, Megan’s former friend, not his client.

Mgdesyan told jurors Harris backtracked on statements she made in Sept. about the shooting. He also told jurors that Megan is a liar, reminding them she had initially told police she was not shot, but was shot in her foot.

Prosecutors reminded the jurors about Megan’s emotional testimony, saying she has received public backlash for speaking out against Tory, telling jurors “Look what it’s done to her life, her career, her reputation.”

Closing arguments will continue on Thursday.

Lanez has been charged with three felony counts of discharging a firearm with gross negligence, assault with a semiautomatic handgun and possession of a loaded unregistered firearm.

He faces up to 22 years in prison.
