Tory Lanez Released From House Arrest As Trial In Megan Thee Stallion Shooting Begins

Singer/rapper Tory Lanez has been released from house arrest in his felony case in which he’s accused of shooting rapper Megan Thee Stallion in 2020.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge David said, “I will terminate the house arrest at this point,” he ruled, according to Rolling Loud. He then called in the first group of prospective jurors.

Deputy District Attorney Kathy Ta argued that the singer, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, tried to “intimidate” or “sway” witnesses in the case, saying “We have a couple of witnesses, not just one,” asking the judge to keep Tory on house arrest.

Tory was put on house arrest in Oct after he allegedly assaulted singer August Alsina.

Tory’s defense lawyer George G. Mgdesyan told the court that his client never attempted to bribe or intimidate any witnesses, despite Megan telling authorities that he apologized, offered her money and begged her to allegedly stay shut after the incident because he was on probation at that time.

Mgdesyan said Tory was never on probation at the time of the incident.

Megan claims Tory allegedly tried to silence her former best friend, Kelsey Harris, who was in the SUV at the time of the shooting. He allegedly offered to invest in her business if she kept silent about the shooting.

Harris hasn’t spoken much on the incident leading up to the trial. She appeared at a hearing in September and was ordered to return back to court this month under a subpoena from prosecutors, reports Rolling Stone.

The 30-year-old singer and rapper was formally charged in 2020 with one count of assaulting Megan with a semiautomatic firearm in a manner that “personally inflicted great bodily injury” and one count of carrying a concealed, loaded, and unregistered firearm in a vehicle.

If convicted, Tory faces up to 20 years in prison.
