Trial Date Set For 2 Suspects In The Fatal Shooting Of Rapper Young Dolph

MEMPHIS, Tenn (AP)- A judge set a trial date on Friday for two men charged in the killing of rapper Young Dolph.

Cornelius Smith and Justin Johnson are scheduled to stand trial on March 11 in the ambush killing of Young Dolph, according to The Associated Press.

Smith and Johnson pleaded not guilty to charges that included first-degree murder.

Jermarcus Johnson, the brother of Justin Johnson, pleaded guilty on June 9 to three counts of accessory after the fact and he could testify at trial.

Another man, Hernandez Govan, has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and conspiracy in the case. He’s accused of arranging the killing of Dolph. He has been released on bond.

Young Dolph, whose real name Adolph Thornton Jr. was ambushed and killed in Nov. 2021 as he was buying his favorite chocolate chips at Makeda’s Homemade Cookies.

There is no motive for the killing.
