WISCONSIN – Two young brothers are dead after plunging through a frozen pond behind their apartment in Wisconsin.
Antwon Amos Jr., 6, and his brother Legend Sims, 8, wandered onto to the pond after their school bus dropped them off Friday afternoon, the Wisconsin State Journal reported.
Both of the brothers fell through the ice and Legend reportedly tried saving his brother.
Police arrived at the scene around 3:20 p.m. and pulled the boys out of the pond and they were taken to a hospital.
Legend was pronounced dead on Saturday and Antwon died Monday.
It’s unclear where their parents were when they were dropped off.
The boys were dropped off at the same corner that is “not located in front” of the pond.
A spokesperson from their school also said the school’s policy states that parents or guardians do not have to meet with the boys once they get off the bus but must supervise them once they get off.
