TEXAS- (Update) The mass shooting at an elementary school Tuesday has left 19 students dead and 3 adults dead.
The victims have begun to be identified.
Teacher Eva Mireles
Mireles, 44, was a fourth-grade teacher who reportedly died protecting students. She was a mother and a wife.
Uziyah Garcia, 8-year-old student
Uziyah was confirmed dead by his grandfather. He’s described as a “sweet boy” who enjoyed playing football with his grandfather.
Annabelle Guadalupe Rodriguez, 10-year-old student
Annabelle Guadalupe Rodriguez was confirmed as one of the victims by her father.
Xavier Lopez, 10-year-old student
Xavier was looking forward to enjoying swimming this summer, his cousin told a local news station. His uncle, Benito Martinez said “For everybody else that has kids out here, cherish these moments just like your parents cherished you every day,” adding “Tomorrow’s not promised, so make today worth it.”
Amerie Jo Garza, 10-year-old student
Amerie Jo Garza’s father confirmed his daughter’s death on Facebook after a 7-hour search for her. She had just celebrated making honor roll in her class.
Elijah Cruz Torres, 10-year-old student
Elijah Cruz Torres was missing for hours before her grandfather confirmed her death. Elijah didn’t want to attend school on Tuesday, according to her family.
These are just some of the victims that have been identified.
It’s believed that the suspect, 18-year-old Salvador Ramos acted alone when he went inside of the school and began his massacre. He was killed by a Border Patrol agent who rushed into the school without any backup.
