Woman sentenced to life in prison for stabbing aunt 56 times

LOUISIANA- A woman has been sentenced to life in prison after stabbing her aunt 56 times to death.

Kenya Despenza was sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of second-degree murder on Thursday for the fatal stabbing of her 56-year-old aunt Dianne Bercyaunt in July of 2018, and for stabbing her stepfather in the head according to WWLTV.

Authorities say that Despenza stabbed her aunt, wrapped her body in a blanket and attempted to clean up her blood that was splattered on the floor and walls.

Bercyaunt’s body was found several days by other relatives, after they hadn’t heard from her.

She then fled in her aunts car and it was later found abandoned at a medical center, where she checked herself in.

Despenza claimed she was not guilty of the murder by reason of insanity, but according to prosecutors, this is something she would do when she would get into trouble. They also said in court that she isn’t insane because she knew right from wrong when she attempted to clean up the crime scene.

Authorities say that conversations between Despenza and her mother show that she may have killed her aunt, and stabbed her stepfather because they refused to help to her and made her walk to work.
