HOUSTON- A woman who was shot by a stray bullet during the shooting that killed rapper Takeoff has spoken out for the first time.
Sydney Leday, 24, spoke with KHOU 11 on Thursday, recounting the traumatic and deadly shooting that left her in a coma after she was shot in the head.
Leday told the news station “Like any other 24-year-old, I was just out partying and celebrating,” when asked why she was at the Houston Billiards & Bowling venue on that Halloween night.
She was also celebrating her birthday with friends that night, which was two days prior to the shooting.
Leday told KHOU that when she saw Takeoff a playing dice and an argument broke out between two people, she knew “something was wrong” before shots were fired.
“I felt like the sting in the back of my head. I felt myself falling,” she said.
Leday, 24, added “It was like a scary movie, really. Ironically, it was Halloween night. I had on a nun outfit. I had blood all over me. I was just grateful that I survived because the place that it hit in my head… I just feel like it was a miracle.”
Leday was in a coma and intubated for a week before she awoke.
She told the news station that she replays that night in her head and feels terrible that other people were injured.
Takeoff, from the rap group Migos, was shot and killed that night.
Two men were arrested in December in connection to his murder. Patrick Xavier Clark, 33, was charged with murder and Cameron Joshaua, 22, was charged with felony possession of a weapon.
Clark is out on bond.
