YSL Member ‘Tick’ Takes Stand Against Young Thug In RICO Trial, Becomes First Co-Defendant To Turn Witness

FULTON COUNTY – A former YSL member took the stand Thursday for the prosecution against rapper Young Thug after the trial was delayed due to a co-defendant being stabbed inside of jail.

On day 14 of the trial, former co-defendant Trontavious Stephens, also known as “Tick” or “slug” testified as part of a plea deal, becoming the first co-defendant to turn witness in the case.

Stephens identified Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffrey Williams, as the co-founder of the alleged street gang “Young Slime Life”, which is also the name of Williams’s record label.

Stephens didn’t do well for the prosecution, as he had a very poor memory when asked questions, claiming it was due to long-term use of marijuana and alcohol. He also seemed confused when asked about timelines, citing his failure to pass math tests in High school.

He spoke about YSL’s alleged involvement in the 2015 shooting of rapper Lil Wayne’s tour bus in Cobb County. Stephens stated that Jimmy Winfrey, also known as “Pee Wee” was a member of YSL.

Winfrey pleaded guilty was later charged in connection to the shooting on Wayne’s tour bus.

Stephens said he was celebrating his birthday at a club where Lil Wayne was present along with Winfrey and Shannon Stillwell, (the co-defendant who was recently stabbed) the night of the shooting.

He testified that Young Thug was overseas touring the night of the shooting as he was an up-and-coming artist who couldn’t afford to take members of the YSL along with him, as he was only making about $5,000 a show.

When asked if any members of the YSL were fans of Lil Wayne, he said he didn’t know, but thought of him as an “idol.”

Thursday marks a year since the start of the jury selection in the racketeering trial.

The trial is expected to last several months or even up to a year.
