NORTH CAROLINA- An 8-day-old baby was mauled to death by a dog in the family’s dog.
Police found the newborn after they were called to the home on Wednesday around 5 a.m., according to local news outlets.
It’s unclear if the newborn was already deceased when officers arrived at the residence, but the death is being handled as “accidental”.
According to the News & Observer, the dog was a stray that the newborn’s family had brought into their home for a few days.
A female pit bull was removed from the home by Johnston County Animal Control after it was surrendered at the scene. The dog will be euthanized after being held for 72 hours.
It’s unclear if the dog belonged to the family, and there are no further details.
