Daycare owner charged with murder in death of 2-year-old girl

VIRGINIA- A daycare owner has been charged with murder in the death of a 2-year-old girl who she was babysitting, and prosecutors say they have surveillance video that shows she’s abused other kids.

2-year-old Kaylee Thomas was found unresponsive at the home of Jessica Cherry, 37, last August.

Thomas was rushed to a Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Thomas’ death was ruled a homicide, and her manner of death was unclear.

According to authorities, Cherry took care of the children at her home, which had playground equipment, but prosecutors allege that her daycare didn’t have a licence, WAVY-TV reports.

Prosecutors played a video during a bond hearing last week, which allegedly shows Cherry covering an infant’s mouth and nose with a cloth, and then leaving him in a room.

Another scene in the video allegedly captures Cherry slapping an infant, which caused the infant to cry out in pain.

Cherry was arrested last September and was charged with felony attempted malicious wounding , two counts of felony abuse and neglect of a child and two counts of felony child endangerment.

Her charges have been upgraded after the coroner’s finding this week, and she now been charged with one count of second-degree murder.
