M.I.A. sat down with HUCK Magazine to talk about her new documentary based on her life & career called “MATANGI / MAYA / M.I.A”, and spoke about her controversial NFL performance with Madonna, where she gave the middle finger to the world.
The U.K. raised artist told HUCK “If you’re talking about racism and sexism, that moment in my life showed the cracks in everyone I knew. I was at Roc Nation at the time and Jay Z was managing me. The lawsuit was so ridiculous, it proposed that they would keep one hundred percent of my earnings for the rest of my life if I ever earned more than $2 million dollars.
She added, “Jay Z was, like, ‘you should sign that shit’ and I was, like, “no.” M.I.A. can’t even speak on the lawsuit or the situation till this day.
The documentary shows M.I.A.’s journey from being a refugee from Sri Lanka, and falling in love with Hip Hop.
