Man sentenced to 52 years for hanging 2-year-old girl & filming it

NEBRASKA- A man has been sentenced to 52 years for repeatedly hanging his girlfriend’s 2-year-old daughter and filming her lost consciousness.

David J. Coleman, 38, was sentenced on Tuesday, reports the Omaha World-Herald reports.

Coleman was initially charged with attempted murder but accepted a plea deal for two counts of child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury.

The sickening act occurred on Dec. 14, 2020 when Coleman wrapped a pink scarf around the toddler’s neck on two different occasions.

The girl’s mother contacted police days later, after she found the shocking videos on Coleman’s cellphone.

One of the video’s shows Coleman hanging the girl from a shelving unit, as she can be seen going in and out of consciousness.

“(Coleman) could be seen grabbing her roughly by the chest and lifting her with the ligature still tied to her neck to release pressure just enough to allow her to breathe, gasp, cry and gurgle, before dropping her in a hanging position, again, only to restart the previous cycle,” Omaha Police Detective Alexis Boults wrote in his report.

Coleman has prior child abuse convictions. One includes an incident where he broke a child’s bones with a heating pad.
