Queen Latifah’s Mother passes away

Queen Latifah’s mother Rita Owens has just passed away due to an ongoing heart condition, and had been struggling with this condition for about ten years. Queen Latifah released a exclusive statement with PEOPLE and wrote this:

“She had struggled with a heart condition for many years and her battle is now over,” Latifah shares. “I am heartbroken but know she is at peace. Thank you for your kindness, support and respect for our privacy at this time. Much Love, Dana Owens (aka Queen Latif‎ah), forever Rita Owens’ daughter.”

She also wrote that her mother is no longer suffering. I send my condolences to the Queen.
