NORTH CAROLINA- An adoptive mother has pleaded guilty to murdering her adoptive daughter, 3 years after she went missing.
Casey Parsons admitted to murdering 13- year-old Erica Parsons on Friday in court.
Erica Parsons was reported missing by her brother in 2013. He told police that she had been missing from her family’s home since 2011.
Police questioned her adoptive parents, Casey and Sandy Parsons, but didn’t believe their story.
In 2014 the Parsons were arrested, but it wasn’t for Erica’s murder, they were collecting checks from the state as if they were still caring for her, and they weren’t.
It was then that the stories of horror began to come to light. Jaime Parson, Erica’s adoptive brother, testified that he, along with his sister and parents, would abuse Erica rountinly.
Jaime said that she wasn’t allowed to use the bathroom, was forced to eat dog food and had her fingers intentionally broken. The last time he said that he saw Erica, she had looked like a “zombie”.
She was also beaten.
Erica’s body was found in a shallow grave back in 2016. An autopsy revealed that she died from “homicidal violence.”
Sandy Parsons has been behind bars and is facing charges of first degree murder, felony concealment of death, child abuse and felony obstruction of justice.
Casey will be heading to trial in April of 2020.
An autopsy conducted by the medical examiner revealed that Erica had died of “homicidal violence” and in February 2018 both Casey and Sandy Parsons were charged with murder and child abuse.
